my phone buzzed and when i pulled it out out of my pocket, a big smile found its way to my face. you see, she was letting me in on a little secret that almost no one else knew. their family of three would soon grow to four, and since i’d been with them for their first son’s birth, she was extending to me the great honor of joining them again for her second delivery.
jennifer’s first birth had been fairly uneventful. it had a slow start but things moved pretty quickly once she got going. not wanting to miss the main event, i headed to the hospital early that morning and texted back and forth with her about how she was progressing. her last text said something about the baby’s heart rate being a little off but that they weren’t too worried about it at that point. when i got to her room, we joked about the whole team being back together – same parents, same doctor, same nurse, same photographer – but then we were all reminded quickly that this was not the same baby and that he was going to need a quick birth via c-section.
the doctors and OR staff at the hospital were gracious enough to invite me into the OR, and i was blessed to document that precious moment of first breath.
jennifer and korey, THANK YOU for once again inviting me to be a part of such an incredible day in the life of your sweet family. i love you dearly…all FOUR of you. 😉
