she was just days away from her due date and she was so ready to hold her baby in her arms rather than her tummy. so when her text came through on tuesday night that she was having regular contractions, i went to bed with my phone right by my head and turned all the way up expecting to hear from her during the night. the moon faded into the morning with no call so i wrote her back when i got up to see how she was feeling. been at the hospital since midnight. barely moving along. thinking most of the day would come and go before she was ready for me to join her at the hospital i started school with my biggest little ones, checking in with her around lunch time when her doctor was supposed to stop by

10 cm. holy cow!!!

i’m not sure what happened next. i just know that in a matter of not-that-long i found myself standing beside kendee and drew in a quiet and dimly lit hospital room. then minutes later, baby jack took his first breaths.

i’ve known kendee since we began preparing together for their wedding photography early last year, and i’ve seen her radiate on one of the most special days of her life. but in all honesty, she’s never looked as beautiful as she did the moments after she became a mother.

and drew? look at the way he held tiny jack in his arms. arms of protection.

congratulations, my friends, on the birth of your precious blessing. much love to all three of you!
