three families began meeting almost a year ago. they drank amazing coffee and shared hours of laughter and tears. but they shared something else as well – each of them was working tirelessly to bring a son or daughter home from africa.

and the reason i know about their amazing time together? i was one of the three.

andrew and lora traveled to uganda to bring mira home on february 18 of this year…

and we brought micah home from ethiopia on may 14 (photos courtesy of my sweet friend, lacey, at LB studios)…

two families down, one to go. it’s been a long, painful road for our dear friends but i’m over-the-moon excited to share that after a month in-country, dylan and carrie returned home from congo this weekend with mila in their arms. the anticipation grew by the minute as their welcoming committee awaited the plane’s arrival…

and then we heard it. somebody yelled, i see them coming!

the crowd erupted into cheers and applause as dylan and carrie made their way through the terminal. that’s when i realized it was official – mila was home.

(FYI: this post wouldn’t be complete without celebrating the homecoming of another precious gift, elly (in the bottom right photo) and her brother, zeke, from uganda. they traveled home on the exact same flights as andrew and lora in february.)

dylan and carrie, words can’t possibly express how ecstatic our family is for yours. we love you dearly, and we’re so excited to finally say welcome home, friends. welcome home.

and praise god from whom all these little blessings flowed!

it doesn’t matter how a child makes their way to their mommy and daddy’s arms- by birth. surrogacy. adoption. it never fails to bring tears to my eyes to see a child come into a family of love. beautiful. precious. perfect. :o)
